Wedding Registries for International Guests: Check the Giving Route First

October 30, 2026

The short answer

Choose a giving route that works for the people using it, not simply a page they can open. For international guests, currency, payment eligibility and delivery can matter as much as the registry itself. Ask the provider about the actual countries and payment methods involved before calling a registry international.

Separate viewing from paying

A guest may be able to read your registry but unable to complete its checkout. A page translating into another language does not establish that its payment service accepts their card or country. Hitchd discusses these cross-border challenges in its international-guest guide. Treat any provider example as a starting point, then check current support for your own guests.

Check four practical details

First, identify the currency shown to the guest. Second, ask whether their payment method and billing country are supported. Third, read how any conversion or additional charge is presented before payment. Fourth, check where a physical gift can be delivered. Do not calculate a guest's final cost from a headline percentage alone. Their own payment provider may have separate terms.

Offer help without creating a chore

Try: "We are glad you are celebrating with us. If the registry does not work where you live, please ask us before trying another payment route. Your good wishes already mean a lot." Avoid asking guests to open a new financial account or carry a large present through an airport. A card can be a thoughtful alternative when giving is difficult.

Keep your registry description accurate

The Forever Fund is our option for contributions toward your future through your own connected brokerage account. Before recommending it to an overseas guest, confirm the current eligibility and payment details for that guest. Do not read the word online as a promise of worldwide support. Choose the registry for its fit, without promising investment results.

Frequently asked questions

Can an overseas guest use any online registry?

Not necessarily. Verify checkout eligibility, currency and payment method with the provider.

Should we ask guests to convert cash before traveling?

Avoid making that a requirement. Discuss a comfortable alternative if they want to give.
